Virgin Blue uses Twitter to promote Price Wars
Are you using Twitter and other Social Media to drive traffic to your site?
Well, if it’s good for Richard Branson and Virgin Blue’s CEO Brett Godrey …
Here is an excerpt from TheAustralianNews.com.au
“Virgin has jumped into the social marketing battleground and has campaigns on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
Almost 8500 followers make it the most popular Australian airline on Twitter — and it tops 11,000 when international offshoot V Australia is added.
“Social media has been tagged as a fad for the youth market, but it’s not a passing phenomenon,” Mr Godfrey said. “Smart companies will quickly learn to use it as tomorrow’s essential marketing platform.
“We’re looking forward to starting the world’s first airfare war on Twitter.”
The airline has been using social media since last year, and V Australia this year ran what it claims was Australia’s first airline Twitter promotion when it partnered with a radio station to send contestants to Los Angeles for three days or 4320 minutes of tweeting, the short messages used on the network.”
What does that mean? Well not only is Virgin Blue making great use of the older 25+ year old demographic than say FaceBook to promote in ‘real time’ seats on last minute flights, but also that it is modern and forward thinking in it’s marketing. By embracing new technologies they are perceived as innovators in peer technologies.
I have been saying for a while now that Twitter is a great marketing tool if used properly. So long as you remember it is not a sales platform but a place where you can add value to others eg by tweeting inspirational quotes, links to great articles, tips and experiences, to useful marketing tools, or especially for them to get to know you, like you and trust you, retweet others great messages and most importantly to your ‘central hub’ ie blog. Then you can invite followers to find out more about you and your business.
So go ahead and follow in Virgin Blue’s shoes and get tweeting!

Need Leads? Let Social Networking Help!
As internet marketers, we all know how important it is to have our own targeted list. As some internet gurus put it, the lifeblood of any online business depends on “the list”.
However, a lot of new internet marketers don’t have a list yet. Does that include you? Well, don’t worry. Building one can be a breeze, with the help of social networking! Here’s how you do it:
- Apply the golden rule - “Just keep it simple.” Take your pick among the social networking sites available and concentrate on building your following in that particular site. Don’t go joining every social networking site you come across with - you’ll only be spreading yourself too thin and end up accomplishing nothing at the end end of the day. My personal recommendation - go for Facebook or Twitter!
- Pay attention to your profile. Provide as much details as you can. This will help like-minded people to find you. And don’t forget to upload a professional looking photo, too! Putting a face to go along with the name definitely helps.
- Add friends. Use your intuition, your “gut feel”, in this step. Leave a comment or message for them to start the “relationship building” effort.
- Start making friends! Seek out like-minded people. Create a network of friends that share the same interests and would be willing to click through to your websites.
- Network. Nurture your new found friends. Be sure to send messages, bookmark their sites, and ask if there’s something you can do for them. And remember to give your new friends a way to contact you!
Social marketing can be an excellent method of generating free leads. If you keep working away at it, a little each day, you’ll be generating endless leads for your network marketing business like clockwork.
The 10 Biggest Mistakes Internet Newbies Make - in Katie’s Own Words…
Today I received a very important email from my friend and colleague Katie Freiling. Basically, it’s all about the top 10 mistakes most internet marketing newbies commit. What are they? Read on…
10. SPENDING TOO MUCH OR TOO LITTLE MONEY:
When you’re new, you want to make sure you set a marketing and training budget that is within your financial capabilities. Do not spend a ton of money on buying leads…(Big no no!) And also, do not make the mistake of thinking you can skate by without investing anything in your own education.
9. TRYING TO DO IT ALL ALONE:
Get a mentor or a coach… Or find a group or community online that you can connect with, mastermind with, and learn from. This will save you an immense amount of time and energy from having to figure everything out on your own. Partner up with people whom you can learn from and surround yourself with motivated, positive, and successful people.
8. SPAMMING THE SOCIAL NETWORKS:
Do not spam… It is literally ‘business suicide’ if you do. Spamming means posting your biz opp link or website all over other people’s facebook, myspace, or twitter profiles… And doing so without providing any content or value will throw you into a hole so deep, it will literally take a miracle to get you out. (No joke!)
7. NOT BEING GENUINE:
People can inherently sense your inner motivations. If you are only concerned with your pocketbook and see others online as only ‘commodities’… You will seriously repel people rather than attract them.
Make sure you are authentic and genuine when you network or meet others online, and instead of thinking about what you can ‘get’… think about what you can ‘GIVE’.
6. BEING TOO ATTACHED AND NEEDY:
The biggest mistake I see people make when prospecting is being too overly attached and needy. Stay detached from the outcome of whether or not someone joins you or buys something from you… This means that it’s great to set goals and intentions, but don’t be attached to HOW your goals manifest.
Trust that life will provide you the exact people, challenges, and situations to help you grow and create success when the time is right.
5. STAYING STUCK IN THE EMPLOYEE MINDSET:
In order to become a successful entrepreneur, you have to let go of the conditioned employee mindset that society has imposed upon us. As an entrepreneur, you no longer have anyone telling you what to do, when to do it, or how…
So you have to take responsibility for your success, set goals, create self-discipline, and realize that success does not happen overnight.
4. NOT TAKING ENOUGH ACTION:
When are you first getting started in online marketing, it’s almost like pushing a heavy boulder up a hill… You have to work hard and exert a massive amount of energy. If you don’t, you’ll never gain the momentum to actually get to the top.
But the good news is… Once you make it to the top, it’s all downhill from there and your income and success becomes more and more automated with each passing day. So make sure you take a MASSIVE amount of action!
3. UN-TARGETED MARKETING:
If you made golf clubs for example, would you ever expect to make a ton of sales by selling to football players? Of course not.
So with online marketing, you’re shooting yourself in the foot if you don’t target the ‘right’ people for your niche. The more targeted your marketing, the better conversion rates you will have, and the more income you will create.
2. NOT GIVING ENOUGH VALUE:
In the world of business and entrepreneurship, the person who provides the most real VALUE will be the one of top, period. I see so many newbies out there making videos and facebook messages about their ‘amazing new opportunity’. (*SIGH*)… When will they ever learn? Value means sharing content, knowledge, training, inspiration, or anything else that will actually help better someone else’s life.
1. NOT MAKING SELF GROWTH A PRIORITY:
This is the #1 biggest mistake you can make as an entrepreneur… Successful people make self growth a priority. They actually seek out situations and experiences that will CHALLENGE them and help them grow. They do not avoid hardship or new terrain, they do not put their focus solely on their bank accts, and they do not see themselves as failures when things don’t go as expected.
They do not quit after a setback or challenge, but persevere and stay committed to themselves.
A highly evolved person will not see success as making a ton of money, but only in how much they actually GROW in the process…
Do you commit these mistakes? Well, if you do, there’s still time to correct your actions. Do it now before it’s too late.

Technology has given us so many ways to communicate. It’s easy now. It’s fast. It’s everywhere. And now - it IS mainstream.
But, hey! Are we really adding people into our lives who share our values? Or merely collecting a list of profiles for our own mailing list? Are we building relationships or just spamming and wasting other people’s time and space? Think about it…
It was said that the quality of our lives is closely related to the quality of our relationships. I don’t know if you believe it but I do.
Your relationships are only as strong or as deep as you choose to make them. Neglect them and they perish. Take time to nurture them, and they flourish.
So, what does it have to do with web 2.0? Well, a lot. You can use resources such as Facebook and Twitter to instantly share your life with other people on a global scale. Use it to touch people, add value to their lives and reach them in a more meaningful way.
In the coming weeks I’ll be sharing with you tools, strategies and ideas for building your network of resources so you can develop even more beneficial connections. We’ll share ideas for expanding your personal brand, creating your own community that brings value to people personally and professionally and allows you and others to grow and contribute.
There are a variety of effortless ways you can make contributions by mentoring and sharing ideas with others and by sharing in the interests and passions of others as well. The whole idea is to use these tools not just to correspond, but the really connect with others.
It’s all about creating more of a personal meaning and a life of purpose… and it’s fun.
More notes coming in the days and weeks ahead and we’ll take it a bit deeper too.
For now, I highly suggest you get yourself a Facebook and Twitter account. They’re both free.
Set up your profiles. Upload your picture.
Grab this free software for twitter:
Follow me on Facebook and Twitter.
While you’re at it, find 10 influential people in your niche - leaders, movers and shakers. Follow them. And begin to follow some of their followers. Aim for 25 - 50 per day. This sets the whole viral web in motion, you’ll see.
Listen in and contribute. Pay attention.
In the next blog I’ll show you a neat tactic to automatically LINK your twitter followers and have them also “friend” you at Facebook. And we’ll start having fun with this.
TweetDeck is a nice organizational tool. You’ll be able to contribute better, organize stuff on twitter and get “in the game” without getting lost.

Is Your Subconscious Mind Sabotaging Your Success With Internet Marketing?
This is some great info I found on fellow social media trainer Katie Freiling’s blog, enjoy.
Here’s an article that is both informative and useful at the same time. It answers the question “Can the subconscious mind affect the outcome of online or offline businesses?”. I hope it will enlighten you as much as it did me. Enjoy reading!
Most people assume that they are living their lives consciously, dreaming about their intentions and goals and living life accordingly. However, research now suggests that 95 to 99% of our cognitive activity comes from the subconscious mind. The subconscious mind allows us to walk, speak, and perform other automatic tasks without having to think about it. The subconscious mind has accumulated years of habitual programming that we are not even aware of.
The subconscious mind is actually 1 million times more powerful as an information processor than the conscious mind. Now, we have all been told that positive affirmations will attract positive results because of the law of attraction, which is true, but only to an extent. If we are only using our conscious mind, the part that only has 5% influence, we are relying on willpower to get the job done. Our subconscious mind may be self sabotaging and limiting us in ways that we do not even realize. If you tell yourself you will be successful and think successful thoughts, but all the while your subconscious mind has been programmed to believe otherwise, the positive thoughts are just not going to work.
We cannot really see why or how some people may have developed self-defeating programming in their minds, but we can start to deconstruct it. Through practices such as meditation and yoga, we can learn to develop mindfulness, or an ability to live life consciously. We can learn to observe our actions and thoughts and choose to react consciously instead of out of habit. Yogis have actually been able to train the conscious mind to control blood pressure, body temperature, and even heartbeat. Our minds are so incredibly powerful and we are learning that perceptions can actually change the construction of our cells.
So, make the choice to live and act consciously because you do not know what might be sabotaging you under the surface. Thinking positive thoughts is a good idea, but it’s better to believe them with your full being. Home based businesses can be difficult if you do not have the confidence and doubt-free knowing that you will be successful. Don’t let your subconscious mind hold you back.

Just think about it. As thousands upon thousands of people are losing their jobs due to the recent economic turmoil, a lot of people are turning to home businesses to make a living. And they are harnessing the power of the internet to expand their operations at a much faster rate. So, while a lot of people are still using the internet for online games and chats, a lot are using it to make a LOT of money! Wouldn’t you want to be one of them?
With the tools the internet provide, you don’t have to “break the bank” to finance your business. In fact, some of the internet marketing tools come with an unbeatable price tag - they’re FREE to use! Now, what more can you ask for?
However, let me say this once and for all. No matter how attractive the prospects of starting an internet home business may be, it simply is NOT for everyone. I’ll be talking about the pros and cons of starting your own internet home business plus the tools and strategies to use if you decide to go right on with it more extensively on my next post so stay tuned!
Internet Home Business - The Pros and Cons
There’s a revolution taking place right here, right now. I don’t know if you notice it but millions of people around the world are ditching the old-age dictum of corporate employment and opting to run their own home businesses. And a lot of them are leveraging on the power of the internet to make a lot of money!
So, why start your own home business? Here are several good reasons why:
- You gain personal freedom. Imagine living your life and earning your own keep the way you’ve always wanted - with no bosses to look over your shoulders, no stressful corporate cultures, and no rigid work schedules. Instead, you can get all your time and energy focused on developing your main business hub and making you some serious money in return!
- You stand to earn an attractive income from your efforts. Since you work at home, you get to save on gasoline and transportation money, you don’t have to spend as much on the dry cleaners, and on a number of expense items previously on your list while you were still employed. With a home business, your earning potential is directly proportional to your efforts - no more waiting for your boss to give you a raise!
- You get handsome tax deductions. Since you use your home office as your main business activity center, a part of your home’s operating and depreciation costs can be deducted from your taxes. You are likewise entitled to deduct transportation expenses (gas, depreciation, insurance, etc.) if you are using your vehicle in the conduct of your home business. So, consult your accountant now on what can and cannot be included in the list!
- You get to spend more time with your family. This is really one of the top reasons why a lot of people are getting into home based businesses! With no more clocks to punch and no more bosses to tell you what to do, you can be there for your family when they need you most.
- You greatly reduce stress. Stress is one of the worst enemies of the employed. And it comes from many sources - from the terrible daily commute, to your boss, to your nosy co-workers, to the impossible deadlines, and a lot more! In fact, there is a never-ending source of stress for those living the corporate lifestyle.
However, operating a home business has its own challenges, too. Here are some of them:
- The distinct line between your personal life and your work may start to fade. It cannot be helped. Since you now work from home, your work may start to spill over your family life and vice versa.
- You will need some strict self-discipline to get things done. Working without a boss may be such a challenge for some. If you are among this group, you have some straightening up to do!
- You may have to start learning to work alone. If you love the idea of having someone to share your accomplishments and your exasperation on a daily basis, then working at home can be a very big challenge for you! Let me remind you, it will just be you, your computer and your paper works all day, every day.
Working at your own home business definitely has its own benefits and challenges. But don’t worry, there are some surefire ways to take care of the challenges you will be facing, if you decide to go on and start your own home business.
More tips to get your home business up and running smoothly, and how you can use the power of the internet to propel your business to the next level in the coming posts.
Have a great day!

Twitter is a powerful social networking tool. Here are some simple but powerful steps you can take starting today to use twitter effectively to build your exposure, gain visibility and position yourself as a knowledgeable marketing resource:
1. Broadcast your email list and offer them a compelling reason to follow you on Twitter.
Let them know you’ll be sharing specific internet marketng and traffic generation training and tips only through invites through twitter tweets…
Twitter has 100% deliverability and it’s NOT email based. No email marketing weaknesses. And you must be efficient in your tweets (posts) so it’s a quick way to communicate with your downline, customers and prospects.
2. Take the time to build relationships with your followers! Be active in the community and NETWORK. Review their videos, visit their sites and offer feedback. Share your opinions and respond to their posts… get deep within their marketing or communication funnels and offer constructive and uplifting advice and comments.
Social Networking on Twitter and all of social media is all about NETWORKING and building relationships. Twitter allows you to do this with much more intimacy than cold emails.
3. TOP OF MIND CONSCIOUSNESS
By communicating and being active on twitter with your tweeps (people) you can gain and maintain “Top Of Mind Consciousness” with them. Each tweet is accompanied by your picture. You begin to embed your image, personality and value of your communications in their minds.
If you’re a network marketer, you want to be “Top Of Mind” each time they think of something in your niche.
4. Team or Customer Support and FAQs can be answered via twitter and you can establish a reputation of “being there” and active in helping your partners and customers gain excellent support and service.
5. Video or News Post BUZZ Group - Take the initiative and rate, comment and vote, prop or digg people’s content syndication. By doing it with no expectation of return, you set in motion the powerful law of reciprocity and you’ll notice your own content receiving social buzz love, which leads to social networking traffic, search engine visibility and FREE ORGANIC TRAFFIC to you.
6. Surveys and Market Research - No better than your targeted, like minded, niche specific twitter followers to pose market research questions to… Ask them what type of training content they’d wish to see produced, or what types of products, services or compensation structures they are in the market for… and then go develop or find it and offer it to them… Priceless market research can be done quickly, effectively and for free using twitter.
7. Invite your tweeps to your fresh posted blogs, videos, articles and press releases and other content and ask for feedback… This is a fast resource for mobilizing your database…
8. Follow influential and creative twitter teeps. People doing interesting and effective things in and out of your niche and model them. Take what you like and make it your own.
9. Invite ALL your other social media networks to follow you on twitter for fast communication. Facebook, myspace, youtube, linkedin etc… broadcast or post invites to twitter… then use twitter to invite to your other content…
As you build relationships of trust and people get to see you and know you better… you’ll get better and faster response to your recommendations and invites. This is POWERFUL Social Networking.
Here is a couple POWERFUL and FREE tools you can use to automated some of your Twitter activities and your network building:
1. Ezine Articles twitter resource page. http://Twitter.EzineArticles.com is a fast resource for finding all kinds of like-minded people to follow on twitter. Gain exposure by getting listed on that page and then click around and meet people to follow.

I hope you are beginning to see the networking and communication power of twitter.
Why do I think it’s a more effective list building tool than email? Simply because in email marketing it’s up to YOU to build your list first… then relate with your list…
Twitter has a viral growth effect. You can start with just you own database of followers… and deliver valuable content to them… but as they begin to expand their own twitter networks, so will your twitter network grow virally…
This is powerful.
Imagine sharing the same training blogs, videos and other content you use to share only with your closed email list… but now each day, like a virus and on autopilot, your messages and useful content are now being seeing by more and more people…
FREE, viral list building to your youtube channel, your blog and ultimately to your sales funnel.
Take action. Do NOT wait. Start meeting people and contributing to the Twitter community TODAY…
